From relatively lower elevations in dry country in NW Yunnan and an area near Muli in Sichuan, this species is distinguished by pink, single stalked flowers in a raceme. The calyx is leaf-like and has spreading lobes. In fruit, the whole expands to a plate like structure in which the globose capsule sits. It can sometimes be found growing together with P. malvacea, a related species which differs in the flower arrangement on the scape (1-8 superimposed whorls).
