Leaves pubescent, oblanceolate to oblong, apex obtuse to subrounded, margin shallowly dentate and with a winged petiole. Scapes, glabrous or slightly hairy, to 40cm, farinose towards the apex with 7-15 mauve to blue-purple flowers in a capitate inflorescence. Calyx usually farinose. Richards described P. bellidifolia subsp. hyacinthina noting that it differs by the white farina under the leaves, though this character can vary, by being strongly fragrant, but mostly through a distinct distribution in Tsari, SE Tibet. Plants which strongly resemble P. hyacinthina have been found in NW Arunachal Pradesh and so this subspecies should be included within the species. May be mistaken for P. umbratilis which is efarinose and has a different leaf shape. May also be mistaken for P. capitata which is usually white farinose under the leaves and only minutely glandular, not pubescent, on the upper surface.
