Type specimen: Kingdon-Ward 13715 resides at British Museum (specimen BM000626732 (holotype)) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024447, E00024448 ) and University of Gothenburg (specimen GB-0048440).

Epithet: Named for the state of Assam.
Distribution: Eastern Bhutan border region, (Orka La, upper Kulong Chu), possibly also into western Arunachal Pradesh.

A small plant (2-5cm) with subsessile flowers. Leaves spathulate with a rounded apex and denticulate margin. Minutely scabrid above and white or pale yellow farinose below. Flowers exannulate, mauve with a white eye and lobes emarginate. Locally abundant at 4000-4600m, growing on steep slopes and cliff faces and is more compact in exposed situations. It may be confused with P. atrodentata (which does not have basal bud scales). Compare also with P. sharmae from Nepal.
