Type specimen: s.n. Monte Alben, Val Gerona, 1150m resides at: Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano and Natural History Museum, Firenze, Italy.

Epithet: Named for Monte Alben, Italy where the type specimen was collected.
Distribution: Areas around and on Monte Alben, Italy

Originally described from Monte Alben, a second site has been found at Stabina valley, Valtorta, Bergamo. This species grows on calcareous rocks. It is strongly aromatic, and shortly pubescent with 3-celled hairs. Flowers are pale violet to lilac-blue with a white mealy eye. Similar to P. recubariensis, though larger and farinous. Hybrids with P. auricula are known but not formally described.
