Type specimen: Edelberg 440 resides at C (via JSTOR) (specimens C10017489, C10017490).

Epithet: Named for the country of Afghanistan where it grows.
Distribution: Afghanistan.

Known only from collections made in 1948 in Nuristan, Afghanistan. This species is similar to other species in Section Sphondylia but has linear bracts and cordate leaves. Some authorities place it in its own Section, Troglydyta. Efarinose with thin textured leaves, and yellow flowers in a single whorl. A drawing is included in the original description.
