Type specimen: Purdom 738 resides at KEW (specimen K000750009).

P. aerinantha was originally found in south Gansu at Lien Hwa Mountain and seems to be restricted to Lian hua shan (range). The leaves are sparsely hairy, efarinose, the scape up to 30cm, farinose toward the apex, with a short spike of light blue-purple flowers. The corolla lobes are deeply notched. The flowers are reported to be efarinose inside, but the images displayed show farina. See related P. gracilenta and P. giraldiana.
